about stonyweb

About me

Stonyweb was established by me, John Rowland, to provide small local businesses and organisations an affordable web design service. I have lived in Stony Stratford for over 25 years, originally coming from South Buckinghamshire.

My career in IT has spanned nearly 30 years and during this time I have held management positions with companies such as Siemens, RAC, Unilever and others. In my most recent role as a Service Manager with Siemens my clients have included  Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS, Natwest, Direct Line etc), National Savings & Investments, Barclays and a number of other organisations (including local government).

I decided to leave this career and set up my own small web design business, Stonyweb so that I can use my wide commercial and  IT experience to help small businesses - in particular with the design and hosting of small web sites.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long will it take to design my website?

A. I can have a website up and running for you in a couple of weeks or even a few days, provided you are able to supply the text and pictures you want and have a clear idea of what you are after. Generally we will agree a timescale with you in advance and aim for an achievable launch date.

Q. How do I get started?

A. After your initial contact I will email you an information pack which will contain a set of questions to help gather your requirements, and a useful guide to things you need to think about (such as your target market, the message you want to get across). I will help guide you if you are unsure, so you do not need marketing or copy writing expertise!

Q. When do you invoice me for the deposit?

A. I will send an invoice to you after you have received the initial information pack  and have agreed to proceed with the web site design. Work will start when the deposit is paid and the balance is only payable when the site has been completed and before it goes ‘live’.

Q. How does Stonyweb keep the price so low?

A. Stonyweb has very low overheads, and I only employ extra resource when I absolutely need to, and I provide our ‘essentials’ package to cover just that, the essentials needed for you to get a web presence. A lot of my meetings with clients can be done on the phone, again saving costs by avoiding unnecessary travel and unproductive time.

Q Why do you ask for my domain to be set up on stonyweb’s hosting?

A. This makes it easier administer your site (keeping costs down), as well as providing you with the visitor stats as part of the service

Q. What geographical areas does Stonyweb cover?

.

A. I have customers in a number of locations, including overseas in Europe but for the ‘essentials’ package I mainly cover the Buckinghamshire and South Northamptonshire areas. In Bucks this includes Milton Keynes, Stony Stratford, Wolverton, Olney, Newport Pagnell, Bletchley, Buckingham, Aylesbury, Winslow and nearby villages, but we will also cover other areas in the County. In Northants I cover the South Northants district, including Towcester, Deanshanger, Brackley and Northampton itself, though again I am more than happy to travel to other locations. If your area is not covered here, please don’t worry as I would be happy to work with you, it may just mean we communicate via phone, email etc as opposed to any face to face meeting.

Q. Why don’t you add VAT to your prices?

A. Stonyweb.co.uk remains a small business and as such operates below the VAT threshold. If this changes I will let you know.

Q. How do you handle updates to my site?

A. I usually undertake small updates without charge but If you email  your requirements I will then quote for the work.
